Having a coach is not a necessity, but an investment in yourself. They can provide a shortcut to achieving your goals, instead of trial and error on your own. They can provide valuable support when you are making significant changes in your life. But with so many coaches available, how do you find the right one for you? Here are some suggestions to consider when searching for a coach: Have you identified your needs? What specific areas do you want to focus on with a coach? Do you want to make a career transition, improve communication, or get a promotion? Identifying your needs will help you find a coach with the relevant experience and expertise. Do they understand what it takes to achieve your goals? Check their credentials and ensure they have relevant experiences that are aligned with your needs. For example, I have experience in Product Management in startups and big tech companies so I can help with interview prep and navigating complex organizations, but I can't help with entrepreneurship. While coaches should have relevant experience in your field, not every former experienced professional makes a good coach. Look for coaches who have a strong track record of helping others achieve their goals. Ask for references or to speak with past clients to get a sense of the coach's effectiveness and style. This will give you valuable insights into what it is like to work with them and whether they are the right fit for you. Are they able to connect with you on a personal level? Schedule an intro call and find out. They need to pay attention to your emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and general well-being to individualize communication and motivation that are specific to you. Do you feel comfortable with the coach? Can you feel a connection and rapport with them? How does their energy feel? Do you feel their positive attitude and enthusiasm? Are they able to motivate and inspire you? In addition to an intro call, read their previous articles to get a sense of their personality. I hope these tips are helpful. Throughout my life and career, I have encountered numerous obstacles and setbacks, but I have always strived to maintain a strong sense of grit and determination to achieve my goals. I believe that my experiences demonstrate the importance of grit in achieving both career success and personal happiness. As an adoptee and immigrant, I faced significant challenges at a young age. When I was not accepted into the school my family wanted me to attend, I was told that I would be sent back to Taiwan. But I did not let this setback deter me. I applied again and was eventually admitted, allowing me to continue my studies in the US. Later, when I declared my major as Electrical & Computer Engineering in college, I was discouraged by others who suggested I switch to something “easier.” Despite this, I persevered and graduated with a GPA of 3.9/4.0. My determination continued to be tested as I entered the workforce. When I became an engineer and wanted to switch to Product Management, I was told that I would not enjoy it and that I should start in QA first. But I pursued my passion for PM and eventually landed a job, despite being initially rejected for not having enough experience. When I asked for a raise, I was told to feel lucky to be employed there. And when I experienced bullying/racism/sexism and was told I was too sensitive. These kinds of experiences are wounding, but I continued to work on myself to not let them deter me from my ultimate goal of being happy. In fact, it was my desire to help others achieve their goals that led me to coaching PMs. As Angela Duckworth , a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, explains, grit is “passion and perseverance for very long-term goals.” I believe that my grit and determination make me uniquely qualified to help others develop the grit they need to not only be successful PMs but also happy PMs. If you are seeking a PM Coach who understands the importance of grit and is dedicated to helping others achieve their goals, I would be happy to chat further. Leverage Product Management With Spirituality
05 Feb, 2023
As a seasoned Product Management leader, I have always been passionate about creating a clear roadmap to achieve my goals. But, as I delved deeper into my spiritual practice, I realized that life cannot be managed like a product. The universe has its own plans, and sometimes the path to success is not as clear as we would like it to be. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned on my spiritual journey is that it's okay to not have all the answers. It's okay to not know how to get there, as long as you remain open and driven. This can be counterintuitive for Product Managers, who are accustomed to having a clear plan in place. But, life is not always predictable and the path to success is not always linear. I've learned to trust the universe and know that the right next step will be revealed to me at the right time. This has helped me let go of the need to control every aspect of my life and has allowed me to be more open to new opportunities and possibilities. In my approach to Product Management, I've also learned to be more adaptable and flexible. Instead of clinging to a rigid plan, I'm now more open to new ideas and willing to pivot when necessary. This has helped me be more creative and innovative in my approach to Product Management which optimizes for an outcome where emotional connection and resonance supersede functionality. As a coach, I use my extensive knowledge in Product Management combined with spirituality to help others align personal values with professional goals, leading to a balanced and fulfilling life.
